Alan Pak Lun Poon, a seasoned language educator, has been a senior lecturer at a university and has led and taught on numerous linguistics and English proficiency courses. In recent years, Poon has served as an English consultant for public, commercial, and charitable organisations. Poon has also actively contributed himself to various public affairs, by acting as a primary school manager, an External Member of a university academic review panel, an Executive Mentor at a university, a university scholarship panel member, and an adjudicator for territory-wide English public speaking contests. One of the accredited members of multiple linguistics establishments, Poon has often been invited to be a keynote speaker of seminars and talks organised by different local universities and institutions. In 2018, Poon has established a scholarship at the Faculty of Arts, entitled ‘Alan Poon Academic Travel Award for Linguistics Students’, with the aim to encourage aspiring undergraduates to pursue their academic and language endeavours. Poon has been interviewed by different professional bodies, such as Phoenix Television (2008), the City University of Hong Kong (2008), HKU SPACE (2012), and Joint University Magazines (2015). Poonis the author of ‘English and Chinese in Contrast’, ‘English and Japanese for Social Interaction’ (The Commercial Press), ‘The Secret Language of Drug Users in Hong Kong’ (The Commercial Press), ‘Speedy Mastery of Academic Vocabulary’ (Ming Pao Publications Limited), and ‘Our Thirty Professionals’ (Ming Pao Publications Limited).”
